Biofreeze uses Ilex to control pain associated with arthritis, chronic joint pain, muscle strain, back and neck pain, leg pain, bursitis, and nerve pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Ilex is a holly plant extract containing many wonderful compounds that provide antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, and saponins.

Indications - Biofreeze is used in the treatment of chronic pain, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, ankle sprains, peripheral neuropathy, metatarsal fractures, arch pain, forefoot pain, ankle pain, heel pain, and ankle and foot arthritis.

I have sprained my ankle and am looking for some pain relief while it is healing. Is using the Biofreeze a good idea?

Biofreeze is a greaseless, stainless, vanishing gel. It provides pain relief from muscle an joint pain that is associated with arthritis, diabetes, and acute injuries. It's a great product to use while healing from a sprained ankle.

Can I use this for capsulitis?

Answer:

Yes it will help relieve pain from capsulitis but it does not help with the inflammation.

I have had flat feet since birth. When I spend a lot of time on my feet, they get quite sore. Could Biofreeze help with the pain?

Answer:

Biofreeze could be an option. After a long day on your feet, you could use it to help ease the pain. I would also look into getting an arch support for when you are on your feet all day.

I get shin splints when I run.  Can I use this product before I run?  Will it help?

Answer:

We don't see any reason why not.  It might help before running but it will definitely help ease the pain after.

I would like to be able to see a complete list of ingredients in biofreeze. Are you able to provide that?

Answer:

The active ingredient is Menthol 3.5%. Inactive Ingredients: Camphor (for scent), carbomer, FD&C blue #1, FD&C yellow #5, Glycerine, Herbal Extract (ILEX Paraguariensis), Isopropyl Alcohol, Metylparaben, Propylene Glycol, Silicon Dioxide, Triethanolamine, Water The dyes used in Biofreeze are approved by the FDA for general use in cosmetics and OTC medications, and is less than the dye in 1 M&M. Ilex is an extract from the holly plant and contains many wonderful compounds, similar to Green Tea, that provide antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, and saponins.

Question:

Can Biofreeze be used to reduce inflammation and pain? Say like after a sports injury like an ankle sprain?

Answer:

Biofreeze is a topical analgesic (pain-killer) but is not specifically designed to reduce inflammation. It is a great first-line treatment for the pain associated with an ankle sprain or other sports injury.

If I buy the big bottle, will it last? Is there an expiration date for it? I'd hate to spend the extra money for it and have it expire.

Answer:

There is no expiration date associated with Biofreeze products - it lasts a long time.

Question:

Does Biofreeze alter or can it interfere with any medication taken for peripheral neuropathy?

Answer:

Because Biofreeze is a topical gel, it should not interfere with any medications you may be taking. It's active ingredient is menthol 3.5%, so it is important not to use it in or around open wounds, your eyes, etc.
