UCBL Preform Children's Orthotic

The UCBL (also known as a Roberts) Preform Children's Orthotic supports pediatric flat feet. Semi-rigid subortholene thermoplastic construction aggressively controls forefoot and rearfoot motion. The UCBL Preform Children's Orthotic features deep heel cups with high medial and lateral flanges for control of pronation and heel eversion. 1 pair per pack.

Indications - UCBL Heel Stabilizer Preform Children's orthotics are used in the treatment of pediatric flat foot and pronation in children.

Foot Care Tip! Wondering which orthotic insole is right for your child? We offer two styles of pediatric arch supports: the BirkoBalance and the UCBL Pediatric Orthotic. The BirkoBalance is semi-rigid with a medium-height arch and lateral heel flange to limit eversion of the heel. This is a general-purpose pediatric support and our most popular orthotic for kids. The UCBL offers more support. It has a deeper heel cup, higher lateral flange, more heel stabilization and requires more shoe room. We usually see patients use the UCBL between the ages of 18 months and 3 years and then switch to the BirkoBalance. Patients with severe, painful flat feet can use the UCBL beyond the age of 3. Occasionally we see adult patients with severe flat feet use the UCBL design.

Would this product work for my child who has a club foot?

Answer:

Unfortunately, no.  Club feet require more specialized orthotics.

Question:

My daughter wears a size 6 adult. Do you have a size in this arch support that would fir her? I saw only youth sizes listed.

Answer:

The UCBL orthotics only come in youth sizes, so I don't think your daughter would fit into them.You may want to take a look at our Half-Length Myfootshop Casual Carbon Fiber Orthotics, since they have a good arch, heel cup and are very rigid.

Is it possible to order a pediatric orthotic for only the right foot?

Answer:

Sorry, but they come as a pair only, and can't be sold separately.

WHAT IS THE BILLING HCPCS CODE FOR THIS ITEM?

Answer:

This is a prefab device and is not custom molded to the patient, therefore prefab UCBL's do not qualify for L3020 billing. Prefabs are considered a non-billable item.

I've read about this particular orthotic before on other web sites. What's so special about it and why would it be a better choice for my son?

Answer:

The acronym stands for University of California, Berkeley Lab. They made the original design for this very commonly used insert. The two things that are unique about the UCBL is the rigidity and deep heel cup. Both of these characteristics are used to control pediatric flat foot.
