Felt Bunion Shield

Our Felt Bunion Shield is made of soft, durable, double-ply felt and is considered the "old reliable" of bunion pads when it comes to treating sore, painful bunions. The Felt Bunion Shield works perfectly for patients who are not able to undergo bunion surgery.

Wear the Felt Bunion Shield directly against the skin. A small elastic loop surrounding the great toe holds the felt protector cushion in place. We suggest wearing hose or a sock to help keep it in position. May be worn in most shoes. Removable, reusable, and Latex-free. Wash by hand with mild soapy water. Air dry. Universal right/left. Indications - The Felt Bunion Shield is used to prevent pain and shoe pressure associated with a bunion (also called hallux valgus.)

Foot Care Tip! - Bunion pain is caused by shoe pressure, mal-alignment of the great toe, or both. The Felt Bunion Shield acts as a protector against shoe pressure but does not re-align the big toe joint. Many patients who use a Felt Bunion Shield also use the Large/Firm Toe Separator to re-align the great toe. Question:

The loop that goes over my big toe is so large that when I try to put my foot in my shoe in stretches.  What can I do?

Answer:

You can try looping it over both the big toe and your second toe as long as there is no discomfort and not so tight that it causes swelling or circulation compromise.   Also try wearing it with a sock over it to help keep it in place.

Question:

My bunion has been causing me a lot of pain while wearing shoes. Will this product possible help the pain?

Answer:

Yes, this product would be a good option for pain caused by a bunion. Bunions increase the forefoot's width changing the position of the joint and force the great toe to function in a way that can cause arthritis. This product should help with relieving pressure.

Question:

I had bunion surgery. Can I wear this bunion shield before my sutures are removed to cushion wear it is still sore?

Answer:

The Felt Bunion Shield is intended to be used to cushion a bunion from shoe pressure. Following bunion surgery, there would be no shoe that would be pressing against the bunion since you'd be in a post-op shoe. Also, the elastic strap on The Bunion Shield may irritate the incision. Be sure to consult your podiatrist before using The Felt Bunion Shield for this application.

Does this product contain latex?

Answer:

Nope. The Felt Bunion Shield is latex free.

Question:

Can I trim this pad with scissors?

Answer:

No. The perimeter of hte pad is stitched. Trimming the pad would result in the two layers of felt coming apart.
